NHPC donates 280 cement bags
ITANAGAR, Nov 3: The NHPC Dibang Multipurpose Project, Roing had extended its helping hands to the Lower Dibang Valley district administration recently and donated 280 cement bags for restoration of water and power channels which were damaged in flood.
During last three months up to September, the flooded water of Deopani river had played havoc in Roing and its adjoining area. All the basic facilities includes drinking water and electricity supply, road link were completely devastated by flood. However, responding to the clarion call of the district administration to help restore the flood damages, the NHPC Dibang project came out to boost the morale of the common during the hours of needs and extended help in possible way.

Illegal timber laden truck seized at Namsai
NAMSAI, Nov 3: Giving a big jolt to the illegal timber operations in and around Namsai areas, the Namsai Forest Division seized a truck loaded with timber worth Rupees 5 lakhs yesterday.

The illegal sawn timber and truck seized with the help of R. C. Deori, Range Forest Officer, Manabhum Range and took under safe custody. The loaded illegal sawn timber is approximately measuring 30 Cum worth of about 5 lakh rupees
According to forest sources there, the vehicle is bearing the registration of Nagaland. The entire operation was carried out successfully under the active supervision and guidance of young Forest Officer Damodhar A.T, who is 2010 batch Indian Forest Service cadre and joined recently at Namsai Forest Division. Tuki calls on PM, seeks his intervention in ADB funding projects
NEW DELHI, Nov 03: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today called on Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh here and discussed various developmental issues pertaining to the state, especially implementation of the PM’s Package that Dr Singh had offered during his last visit to the frontier state.

The Chief Minister also requested the Prime Minister’s intervention to facilitate the scope of externally aided funding of development projects in the state through organizations such as Asian Development Bank (ADB) and World Bank. He informed that Arunachal Pradesh has recently submitted certain Infrastructure Development projects for funding by ADB but due to certain hurdles, the projects are not seeing the light of day. He appealed for the PM’s personal intervention to clear these hurdles so that the state can also benefit from international funding agencies like others.
The Chief Minister also urged the Prime Minister to consider reconstruction of the historic Stilwell Road to foster bilateral trade with South East Asian countries. He also discussed certain strategic infrastructure projects like the Lumla Tashigaon Road and the tunnel from Sange to Jang being surveyed by NHPC. He said the road from Lumla to Tashigaon in Bhutan would touch Rangiya in Assam and thus shorten the distance between the Tawang region and Assam. Besides, this road would boost up border trade as well as tourism sector with Bhutan, he explained.
He further briefed the PM about the impending status of these projects and requested the PM to expedite completion of the same through related Government agencies such as Ministry of External Affairs, Border Roads Organization and others. He also appealed to the PM for facilitating the No Objection Certificate for the construction of the Lumla Airport which would cater to both civilian and defence purposes.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister called upon the newly appointed Union Ministers of State, Jitin Prasada (HRD) and Ranee Narah (Tribal Affairs) to congratulate them on their assumption of offices.

Rare gregarious flowering of various species of bamboos, both natural and planted, in nine districts, namely Kurung Kumey, Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang, East Kameng, West Kameng and Papum Pare has led to serious economic impact on poor rural people due to heavy crop damage by rodents, a memorandum submitted to Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Tariq Anwar in New Delhi today by APBRDA said. The rural people are fully dependent on bamboo for their shelter and for everyday utilities. But the flowering of bamboo has not only caused serious ecological imbalance but also great hardship to the rural communities since bamboo is considered a natural vehicle for development. Both the chairman and vice chairman of APBRDA Tanyon Tatak and Yora Tagung along with NCP Arunachal Pradesh president Kahfa Bengia discussed on bamboo flowering and its serious impact on rural economy and ecology with Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Tariq Anwarin Delhi today.
The bamboo forest in the state is the highest amongst the north eastern states. There are about 73 species of bamboo found in the state. The bamboo species which are flowering are Dendrocalamus hamiltonii, Bambusa pallida, Bambusa tulda, Cephalostachyum pergracile, Dendrocalamus sahnii, Chimnobambusa callosa, Schizostachum arunachalensis, and Schizostachyum fushianum etc.

18 contestants to vie for top honor

ITANAGAR, Nov 03: Altogether 18 beautiful women will be vying with each other for the top honor in the grand finale of the 9th Miss Arunachal 2012 contest at Indira Gandhi Park here on November 30.
The beauty pageant with theme “Beauty with Brain” aims is to provide a platform to young women to show their talents in the field of fashion besides empowering them and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the state, said Kipa Kaha, Chairman of Arunachal Guild for Cultural Integration (AGCI), the organizer of the event.
The contestants were selected in two separate audition rounds held on October 26, 27 and November 3. Five out of 10 contestants have been selected in the second and final round audition today. Thirteen contestants made it to the final in the first round. The preliminary round of the contest would be held at Siddhartha Hall here on November 28.
